Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has grouped Arsenal with Liverpool and Manchester City as one of the top sides in the Premier League. It comes amid an outburst from the Portuguese international in a huge interview in which he made several brutal comments about his current side.

It comes as the 37-year-old struggles to battle his way into the team under new boss Erik ten Hag, with just months remaining on his contract since making the return to Old Trafford. Issues such as leaving the bench and then the stadium early against Tottenham have caused plenty of controversy.

However, it was an interview with Piers Morgan for the Sun that is the latest issue for the Red Devils to contend with as he aired some of his truths on the situation. "Not only the coach, but the other two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed," Ronaldo said when asked if he was being forced out of the club.

"I don't know what's going on. Since Sir Alex Ferguson left I have seen not evolution in the club. The progress was zero," Ronaldo continued when giving his assessment of the club. "I think the fans should know the truth, I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United.

"But you have some things inside that don't help [us] reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal...a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not unfortunately. As Picasso said, you have to destroy it to rebuild it (the exact quote was: 'Every act of creation is first an act of destruction')."

The situation is somewhat reminiscent of the that at the Emirates Stadium over the past few years, where the legacy of Arsene Wenger casted a huge shadow over those who may succeed him. However Arsenal took a different approach in hiring Mikel Arteta shortly after the dismissal of Unai Emery.

The Spaniard understood everything about the club and set in new standards and ushered in a whole host of new players to the squad. He wasn't afraid to destroy the regime in place to rebuild a better one at the club and Ronaldo's claim that the Gunners are now at the top level is testament to that.
